Information You Submit
When you use a search form, the name, telephone number, or address you enter goes to the third-party provider that supplies the results. Our own servers do not retain a copy of the search. A message sent through our contact channel includes only the details you choose to provide, and we use those details to answer you.
Information Collected Automatically
Standard hosting logs can record an IP address, browser type, visit time, and pages viewed. We review this information in aggregate to maintain the service and learn which resources are useful. Cookies or similar tools may support basic analytics and, when present, advertising measurement.
How We Use Information
The limited information described above helps us operate the service, diagnose faults, measure traffic, and improve content. We do not sell a visitor list or create individual user profiles.
Links Beyond Our Service
Links may lead to Town of Chapel Hill departments, Orange or Durham County offices, North Carolina agencies, libraries, and outside search tools. Each destination sets its own privacy terms. Information submitted there is handled under that destination’s policy, not ours. The same distinction applies to sponsored results supplied by a third party.
When Data May Be Shared
Hosting and support vendors process server logs for us. Analytics or advertising providers may receive the automatic data already described. We may disclose information when valid legal process requires it, but we do not otherwise share visitor data.
Safeguarding Your Data
An encrypted connection protects data in transit. Server logs are kept only for as long as the operational purposes above require. Because visitors do not create accounts, this service holds no user password or account profile that could be exposed.
Visitors Under 18
This service is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Contact us if you believe a minor supplied personal information, and we will remove it.
Your Privacy Choices
Privacy rights can depend on where a visitor lives. North Carolina has no verified enacted comprehensive consumer-data law that gives residents a universal data-broker deletion right. House Bill 462 from 2025 was proposed legislation, not enacted law. The state’s 2025 Personal Privacy Protection Act, Chapter 55A Article 18, narrowly concerns nonprofit member, donor, and supporter identities; it is not a general consumer privacy statute.
We can search the contact mailbox and server logs for data we hold, then correct or delete it where appropriate. Submit such a request through the Contact page. Official records are different. Material held by Chapel Hill, Orange County, Durham County, or a North Carolina agency remains under the custodian’s law and cannot be removed by us.
North Carolina law does provide targeted controls. G.S. 132-1.10 permits a free, precise request to redact listed identifiers from Register of Deeds or clerk website images. The Address Confidentiality Program under Chapter 15C protects qualifying survivors through a substitute address. Those remedies affect defined records and circumstances; they do not create a general right to erase material made public under N.C. Gen. Stat. Chapter 132.
